Cold weather socks and gloves?
« on: June 03, 2014, 08:30:59 PM »
I used the search function and couldn't find much so here it goes. I hunt over in the Panhandle Thanksgiving week every year and it can get rather cold over there ( single digits and lower). I love the cold but seeing as how pretty much all of my favorite spots over there are well behind gates my usual mode of transportation is a quad. Riding a quad when it's 5 degrees out is pretty chilly but with my clothing I stay pretty warm, except for my feet and hands. I use just normal Costco merino wool socks and a pair of Team Realtree thinsulate gloves(100 Grams). I'm looking to upgrade and wanted to ask what others use and like or don't like before I drop any serious coin. Thank you in advance for the help.

For me the best socks are Darn Tough socks. You can buy them in various weights and they have a lifetime guarantee. I have used many different brands of socks and they either wear thin or get holes in them. As far as gloves go I usually layer mine. I will wear Kuiu gloves under my thick Cabela's gortex long gloves .

For socks I just wear my normal wool socks in my Whites pac boots and haven't had any issues of cold feet and have spent plenty of time out in single digit and below temps will follow to see what folks say about gloves though.

I wear Whites Pac boots too. They are fine when I'm hunting it's just the ride in and ride out that sucks. Once my feet get really cold it's hard to warm them up.

Tag. Now that I am venturing into tree stand hunting and did it for the first time last year, I need some new gloves and socks/boots too.
